3 comments for the next one(: ————————————— We were watching a movie when it happened. “MiGuelle.. .” that was all i could say before … MIGUELLES POV I looked at Keira to find her staring into space. i snapped my fingers in front of her face. “Keira! Keira can you hear me?!” she snapped her face round when i shook her. “Nick’s not happy.” “Well i’m not suprised, you stood him up didn’t you. That was the plan!” Then i got what she said. “Whoa. Keira i thought this stopped. Its not meant to happen again!” “I know!” she stood up and walked away, fidgeting with her hands. then she turned back to face me. “what if it happens again Miguelle?” “No.” I stood up as well. “Keira it won’t happen again.” “But what if it does? What if it comes back? WHO WILL IT BE THIS TIME?!” she broke down in tears and slid down the wall til she was sitting on the floor. i sat beside her and pulled her into a hug. “Keira it won’t be anyone. I promise.” *NEXT DAY* We woke up as my phone went off. 8am. I turnd the alarm off and looked over at Keira. “Any better?” I noticed her eyes were red and her cheeks were wet. “Not really. I’m havin a shower. You can go downstairs and eat whatever you want.” I left her house, got ready at mine then went back to hers. I raided her kitchen and found some shreddies. WOO! i sat down at the counter and started eating them out of the box. Keira came downstairs in an oversized T-shirt, leggings, leg warmers and converse. “MiGuelle!” “Mfhgh

The Truth About How to Shift Gears in Bicycles

August 30th, 2010 by legwarmers No comments »

Whether you have a road bike or mountain bike, it does not matter. You will have to deal with shifting gears when you cycle, especially with a multitude of different terrains (on road or off road).

You will notice that most people are confused as to whether to choose a bicycle with higher or lower speeds; 16 gears, 24 gears, 27 gears and so on. Gears, for the bicycle is the transmission system. With proper shifting of these gears, it can help a cyclist conserve energy or cycling purpose tremendously.

Then you will hear about automatic shifting bikes. This absolutely not required. Any cyclists should learn the basis of cycling by mastering the shifting techniques.

First, you will need to know what is cadence. Cadence is the revolutions made in a minute (‘rpm’). A value of 50 ‘rpm’ is considered a cadence. Professional cyclists are fitter and can pedal more rounds per minute. They generally have a higher cadence at 70 to 80 ‘rpm’.

The rule of thumb is this. When you are cycling (or pedaling) faster than the right cadence, you should change your gears to be higher. When you are pedaling too few ‘rpm’ than your usual cadence, you should shift your gears to be lower.

The way a gearing system works in bicycles is simple. A speed of 12 can be derived from multiplying 2 x 6 in which 2 is the second sprocket (at the front) and 5 is the fifth sprocket (at the back). Alternatively, the same speed of 12 can be obtained by shifting to 3 x 4.

Generally, if you want speed, you should shift to bigger gears. This is especially true for cyclists who ride road bikes. It is also very suitable when going downhill and shifting to big gears for maximum speed. You will find that the bigger ring (front sprocket) will be harder to pedal (bigger force) but enable more distance per pedaling. When going uphill, you should always shift to the smaller ring sprocket. You will notice it does not take as much effort to cycle with the smaller ring sprocket.

What about the rear or back sprockets? These sprockets will range from 1 to 9 (the maximum number will vary according to manufacturers). You will use these numbers for further fine tuning your gearing ratio.

In conclusion, you should keep your cadence in check all the time. A good cyclist will always maintain his or her cadence by constantly shifting the gears when encountering different terrains.

Get Your Groove Back With Vintage Oakley, Ray-Ban and Revo Eyewear

August 29th, 2010 by legwarmers No comments »

Looking for something different and uniquely attention-catching to touch up your wardrobe? Don’t underestimate the power of retro. While love beads and leg-warmers may never come back in style, other fashion accessories can only look better over time. Accessories like this gain personality with age. And sunglasses such as the vintage Oakley, Revo and Ray-Ban sunglasses are among them.

Oakley is a brand that is relatively new in the market, but is a dynamic, fast-moving player. It is quite difficult to call even its older models “vintage Oakley,” since this particular brand prides itself on coming out with new and better models all the time – it may be more apt to say a pair of sunglasses is only either an Oakley or an outmoded Oakley. But come the time, its recent high-tech, state-of-the-art styles will be treasured by collectors, as well!

Ray-Ban is one of the oldest and most trusted names in fashion eyewear. As such vintage Ray-Bans may not be all that hard to find. People have collected Ray-Bans since Hollywood made sunglasses in general famous during the late 30s and early 40s. The Ray-Ban company has experimented with many styles, setting the trend for different heydays of sunglasses – from time to time it even revives its own retro styles, such as when it re-released its 1983 Wayfarer line of sunglasses in late 2006. No matter how Ray-Ban makes its way through the market, it will remain a household name in shades.

Revos are distinctive. As with all vintage shades, authenticity is important, but it gains just that much extra importance with a Revo. These shades were originally manufactured by a NASA engineer, who decided it might be marketable to create wearable lenses out of the material used to protect the portholes of satellites from solar emissions – and was right. Revo lenses are prized for their durability and top-rate UV protection, not to mention their classy frames. Vintage Revos would be a remarkable addition to any collector’s trove.

Some retro sunglasses come in quirky styles that would appear humorous, and even downright ridiculous, to a less colorful generation – tapered ends, heart and star shapes, glitter paint, the works. But don’t knock it, because these sunglasses may well be the single accent that your boring wardrobe needs. Then again, retro may not always mean quirky – it can also mean classy. You can’t go wrong with vintage Oakley, Ray-Ban and Revo sunglasses.

Top 10 Cycling Accessories to Make Your Riding Life Better

August 28th, 2010 by legwarmers No comments »

So you’ve got a bike. Now what? To fully enjoy riding you will need a few accessories to help you on your way. These are my top 10 pieces of gear that will your cycling life better.

Padded Cycling Shorts

If you ride more than just around the block you’ve probably had a sore butt or chafing at some point. Padded bike shorts go a long way in reducing back side discomfort. You can get them in the classic skin tight lycra or a baggy short with the padded short built in. The fabrics are a modern wicking material that helps pull sweat from the skin to protect the skin and be more comfortable. Either way they will give the bum some more padding, reduce chafing and help manage moisture.

Pump

A pump is one of those things that isn’t very exciting until you need it. Then it’s your best friend. I recommend both a floor pump for home use and a mini pump that you can carry on your bike in case of flats while riding. The floor pump take far fewer strokes to get a tire up to pressure making it less of a pain to inflate a tire. The mini pumps work but I only use it for on the ride repairs as they have you pumping like a mad man to get up to pressure. Far better than walking but not something I want to do every few days.

Repair Kit

Like the boy scout motto goes, “Always be prepared”. Get one of the little bags that strap under your saddle and fill it with a spare inner tube, patch kit, tire levers, fold out mini tool (allen keys, screw drivers and chain breaker) and mini pump. With this kit you can take care of most of the problems you will run into while out riding.

Chain Lube and Cleaning Supplies

A clean and lubricated chain is a happy chain. You will have better shifting and longer life to all your drive train parts if you clean and lube your chain regularly. If your lazy like me you can use Rock and Roll Gold chain lube which clean and lubricates in one step.

Gloves

Whether for comfort, protection or warmth, cycling gloves are a must have. You can do short rides without them but just like the bike shorts, having gloves reduces pressure and chafing.

Vest and Warmers

A wind vest, arm warmers and knee warmers take a summer cycling outfit and extends the temperature range down by 10 degrees. Of particular utility is the fact that on a cool summer morning your can start with these pieces on and as it warms up can remove and store them in your jersey pocket.

Sport Glasses

You need to protect your eyes from the sun, wind and debris. In expensive sport glasses are available with interchangable lenses so one set will cover all lighting conditions. All it takes is one bug in the eye to see how important eye protection is.

Hydration System

This can be bottles and cages on the bike or a Camelbak hydration backpack. If you are riding for more than 30 minutes or it’s hot out you need to rehydrate. You need 750-1000 ml of fluid per hour of riding and you need some way to carry it.

Light Set

Even if you are a road rider who only goes out during the day light, at some point you will get caught out as the sun goes down. A small LED front and rear light can be the difference between making it home safe and getting run over. Many of the small lights will go on your bike without adding much weight or wind drag but they are there when you need them. If you ride at night regularly a more powerful front light that throws enough light to light your way.

Bike Knowledge

All of the cool accessories in the world won’t do anything if you don’t know how to use them. Check with your local bikes shop or community college as they often offer bike repair courses. If you develop the skills, things like flat tires, misaligned gears and mushy brakes will be simple fixes you can do yourself and keep riding.

What Were You Wearing When You Were Younger?

August 24th, 2010 by legwarmers No comments »

There are quite a few situations when wearing a t-shirt is not suitable; a funeral for starters, possibly a college graduation and of course your own wedding. Wearing a t-shirt to a friends wedding is alright. Yet, while there may perhaps be a few places that wearing a t-shirt may not be the greatest plan, there are a range of appropriate places and it makes the T-shirt just about the most versatile and worn apparel in your wardrobe.

T-shirts have been around for some time, even in ancient times the Greeks and Romans wore them for casual wear. That last part was not factual, however they have been a staple of the American wardrobe and experience for many years. For a very long time, a simple colored t-shirt was perfectly alright, but then someone got the bright idea to set stuff upon the t-shirts.

You could possibly place the logo of your business. The t-shirt has forever been an affordable and cost effective technique to advertise, however there is a lot more. You will be able to support your favorite basketball team or hockey team or the nearby Kiwanis club or even who you plan to vote for for President in the future election. The reality is that the limitations of the T-shirt and what you could possibly place on them is limitless and will never be exhausted.

The only restriction to what is able to be printed or embroidered or ironed on a t-shirt is simply limited by your inventiveness. Even the iron on decal t-shirt are becoming popular once again. I just recently saw a youth at the mall wearing a t-shirt with Mr. T’s face on it. I had the exact same t-shirt 25 years ago. They said that things from the eighties would never make a comeback, yet just as the 60s and 70’s had their revival, the 80’s are right behind and all the spandex and leg warmer glory of those days will make a triumphant return. Okay, perhaps not the leg warmers, but I’ll be dusting of the old Reebok high tops soon; I am confident that people will start wearing them once more.

All of these styles have come full circle and even if people begin wearing them again to be amusing or ironic, somebody else might pick up on it and enjoy it for what it is and start it up once more. That is why you watch the exact same things return frequently every couple of years. It only takes one kid to dust it off and remove it from his or her parents closet and put it on.

Going Skiing? Here’s What You’ll Need

August 23rd, 2010 by legwarmers No comments »

If you’re heading into the mountains skiing, you have to be prepared. This is particularly true if you’ve never skied before, so here’s a helpful check list.

Before you go you need to see what equipment is available at your ski resort. Some resorts do not have hire gear, so you will have to bring your own boots, skis, and poles. Don’t worry though, most have plenty of good quality equipment you can hire right on the mountain.

You need to dress appropriately for the conditions, make sure you have thermal underwear, a long-sleeved top, and remember, it is best to wear many layers so you can remove them as you heat up.

Socks are another important item of clothing, you should have a thin pair on, with a thicker pair over the top at the start of the day. You should also take a ski parka, hat, gloves, and muffler, all of which you can remove to control your heat throughout the day.

If you get cold limbs, you should definitely bring hand and foot warmers. It can get cold on the lift and they will be a godsend, especially if the wind picks up.

Everything is so much brighter up on the mountain. Some kind of eye protection is a must, so remember to bring goggles or sunglasses to protect you from the glare of the sun on the snow.

You will find the fun continues off the slopes at most ski resorts, with many different social activities going on. You should definitely bring some spare clothing to wear once you’ve finished skiing so you can make the most of it.

It is fine to wear casual clothing if you are heading to the ski lodge for a drink after your day skiing. You will probably need to dress more formally if you want to go out to the bars and restaurants in the evening though, so don’t forget to pack appropriately.
